This coming pack meeting is our annual award ceremony. Make sure your cubs, and their uniforms, are looking their best and bring your camera. In addition to celebrating our scouts accomplishments we will also be doing a special activity/experiment around thermodynamics so be ready to get your geek on!

Cub-Parent Weekend

One night of camping run by our local BSA council. This is a great chance to go camping with your scout and friends from the pack. The council takes care of most of it including food and lots of fun activities (crafts, games, archery, BB guns, swimming, and campfire program). April Pack Meeting: Leave NO Trace

Friday, April 20, 7PM at NESBIT

The principles of Leave No Trace are designed to inform people how they can reduce their impact on the environment when they enjoy the outdoors. We will have fun learning about these principles through hands on activities like solving a “crime scene”. In addition, scouts can earn their Leave No Trace patch.

Pinewood Derby District Race

The top placing cars from our Pack 61 Pinewood Derby are now off to race at the Redwood District race against other Packs from Atherton, Belmont, Burlingame, Foster City, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, Woodside, and La Honda.

The race is Saturday, April 14th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at the Hillsdale Mall. Everyone is welcome to go cheer on our scouts. It should be a lot of fun!

Pinewood Derby was a Huge Success

Last night was the 71st running of the Pack 61 Pinewood Derby. There were 67 cars competing, plus a separate outlaw race. It was a great showing of speed and style! Once again thanks to Joe Ahn and the entire Pinewood Derby team that made this happen!

PINEWOOD DERBY!!! BIG RACE FRIDAY NIGHT THE 16th

The big race is almost here. Hope everyone is finishing up their cars. This is a big night for the scouts, one they will remember. Let’s make sure everyone has fun and learns great sportsmanship. Remember you need to register before you race and registration starts at 6PM. Also, come hungry pizza will be served.

Remember for Friday to review the rules we don’t want anyones hard work to be disqualified. Some of the key ones: only stock (official BSA, like the kits the scouts were given) wheels and axels, no more than 5.0 oz, and make sure you’re don’t stick out too long, too high or too low (watch the weights on the bottom).

Special thanks to Joe Ahn again for taking the lead on this event and to all the volunteers who are helping out!

Pinewood Derby Pre-Race – Fast Fun

Over half the pack turned out to test their cars on the track Friday night. I’m guessing many of the cars that weren’t there were not quite track worthy yet (not that I’m speaking from experience). Cars were looking good, getting tweaked and going faster. Special thanks to Joe Ahn for his great leadership of the event; everything went off like clockwork. Also, a big thank you to Dan Dowling for all his great work helping the scouts work on their cars.

Winter Carnival Was A Smash

A Pack 61 tradition. Lots of games, fun and sportsmanship to kick off the winter break! Everyone had a great time tossing bean bags, racing on three legs, ring toss, and racing with a tennis ball between the legs. Fun!

January Pack Meeting – Blue and Gold Dinner

AN AGE OLD CELEBRATION OF SCOUTING

See you all Friday, January 20th – As this Pack Meeting includes dinner so it STARTS AT 6:00PM at Sandpiper

The Blue and Gold Banquet is one of the highlights of the year. It brings together the Pack’s families for a dinner and an evening of fun. The meal is important, but even more important is the warm, congeal atmosphere created as families enjoy each other’s company.

Activities

Good Food for All
Dens will be putting on skits
There is the opportunity to for any cub to share a joke (write it on a card, with their name and den, submit at the beginning)
An overview of Pinewood Derby season will be given by John De Voy our Cubmaster

This months good turn is to collect eye glasses for those in need. We will be supporting our packs Sponsor Organization, the Lions Club, in collecting old eye glasses. If you have any please bring them, help the less fortunate, and get credit for a good turn.
